Saints Women’s Golf Team Notches Podium to Start the Year.

Over the weekend the Saint Martin’s University Men’s and Women’s golf team started their fall season hosting Bishop Invitational at The Home Course in Dupont, WA. The tournament is named for long time and recently retired Men’s head coach Kevin Bishop. The event hosted a variety of men and women collegiate teams.

The tournament saw teams from throughout the GNAC Conference, teams from Hawaii, and included local DIII Pacific Lutheran University.

At the end of Round 1 Simon Frasier University led the pack over Western Washington University and Hawaii – Hilo with Saint Martin’s University sitting in 5th place 5 strokes behind a podium finish. On the individual side Megan Billeter (WWU) and Meera Minhas (SFU) were tied for 1st with a handful of other players withing striking distance, including Kelsie Inouye (SMU) who was tied for 3rd with three other players.

Heading into Round 2 on Saturday the competition only increased as teams and players began to up their games from Round 1. Megan Billeter (WWU) who held the lead on Friday remained consistent ending the tournament with a 73 & 70 placing her firmly at the top of the leaderboard at days end. Izzy Ferguson (SFU) and Kassie Muanyam (SFU) grabbed second and third place respectively.

On the team side, WWU was able to overcome a large deficit from Round 1 leader Simon Frasier to grab the top spot at the end of Round 2. That wasn’t the only movement of the day, as SMU, who sat in 5th place after Round 1, was able to pull past Northwest Nazarene and Hawaii – Hilo securing a third place finish.
