Thunderbirds Force Game 7

The Seattle Thunderbirds extend win streak to force a crucial game 7 in the 2022 WHL Playoffs.

Round 2, Game 6: Portland (1) at Seattle (2) [Series tied 3-3]

SOG: POR (30) – SEA (36)

Saves: Gauthier (34/36) – Milic (29/30)

The Seattle Thunderbirds game into game 6 needing the win to extend the series. As has been the majority of the series, the Thunderbirds came out swinging scoring the first goal of the game early in the first period. The Thunderbirds looked like the aggressor early on controlling the puck and putting Winterhawks goalie Guthier under pressure from the beginning.

Portland’s special teams were able to take advantage of penalties by the Thunderbirds to tie the game at the midway point in the first period. Unfortunately for Portland, Seattle quickly responded scoring the go ahead and game winner to round out the first period.

In the remaining two periods both teams went toe-to-toe as each team had multiple opportunities to score. But the story of the night went to Thunderbirds goalie Milic who made multiple crucial saves down to the final seconds of the game to stimy the Winterhawks hope of closing out the series.

The series moves back to Portland’s Veterans Memorial Center tonight for the WHL’s first Game 7 of the 2022 season.
