Saint Martin’s Women’s Basketball season came to end after falling to top-ranked Western Washington, 60-54, in the GNAC Quarterfinals.
Though the Saints weren’t the favorite to win the game, they came out firing putting the Vikings on notice that this game wasn’t going to be a walk in the park for the top-seed. The Saints put in a team effort from both starters and players off the bench to keep the game within reach.
The Saints’ defense caused havoc for the Vikings in the first quarter, limiting Western Washington to only one made field goal in the final five minutes. The Saints defense kept the pressure on stopping the Vikings from scoring until deep into the quarter.
In the second half the Vikings seemed to get a second wind as they maintained the lead through out the third quarter. Western Washington’s lead was a high as 11 in the fourth before the Saints began crawling back. With five minutes left on the clock the Saints had narrowed the lead to 5. Unfortunately, that would be as close as they would get ultimately falling 60-54 ending their season.
