Hoy Nets Career Goal in Portland During Loss to the Oil Kings

The Winterhawks kicked off the spooky weekend wearing their Halloween jersyes against the Edmonton Oil Kings. In addition, the Winterhawks gave a warm welcome to former player, and fan favorite, Josh Mori, and saw David Hoy score if first career goal in an otherwise challenging game for the home team.

Game Recap

The Oil Kings rolled into Portland on Saturday night, and took their frustrations from the previous nights loss against Everett, returning the favor by dominating the Winterhawks. From the get go, the Oil Kings controlled the pace of place creating quick chances on the attacking end. Portland rose to the task creating a few early opportunities, but never quite found the net in the first period. The Oil Kings steady defensive play led to opportunities in the offensive end scoring goals from Woodward (EDM) and Hodnett (EDM) to end the first period 2-0.

In the second period, the Oil Kings continued to keep the offensive pressure up, with Woodward scoring his second goal in the early muinutes, and then notching the hat-trick 15 seconcds later. Depsite being down 4-0, the Winterhawks continued to battle working to create offensive chances, but the Oil Kings defense remaind solid.

The scoring didn’t stop in the third period as Gracyn Sawchyn (EDM) would find the net immediately in the third period on a snipe in front of the net. Despite the challenges and frustration of being down 5-0, the Winterahwks continued to battle and eventually found the net off the stick of David Hoy (PDX), who netted his first career goal in the WHL. The positive steps in getting a goal were short lived, as Sawchyn (EDM) scored his second goal mintues later, with the final goal coming from Roersma (EDM) ending the game at 7-1 Edmonton.
